Global Swarming- Solana gets internationale with 'destination boutiques'

Down the street at the Lilipeach House of Fashion, owner Lili Zafar opted to open her appointment-only shop (save for her Thursday open houses) in the Stevens Design Center. The location doesn't get as much foot traffic as nearby Cedros- and that's exactly the point. "I didn't want a store that you could just walk into. You could go to a mall for that," Zafar says. "I want to provide a different kind of service here." Born in Tehran, Zafar moved to San Francisco at 19 to study at the Arts Institute, and then relocated to Solana Beach. Now, she's S.D.'s own globetrotting personal shopper. As soon as the tires hit the tarmac on her trips to Bali, Thailand, and Italy, she heads straight for the designer's ateliers, and it shows: The stock includes airy dresses by Hakuna Matata (designed by a French husband-wife duo in Bali) and jewelry by Brit label Street Dogs. Her next destinations? Spain, Sweden, and Australia, where she'll be in hot pursuit of menswear. Could our bros be rocking sarongs come summer? Stay tuned.
